In recent years, due to the rapid globalization of the economy, Japanese companies have expanded overseas. On the other hand, looking at the domestic market, we can find many pressing issues related to a shrinking labor force, such as a declining birthrate, aging population, and the depopulation of smaller towns and villages resulting in a growing disparity between urban and rural areas.
The government of Japan could not ignore these issues and is focusing its efforts on strengthening employment support for foreign students and attracting highly skilled foreign talent. The number of foreigners working in Japan surpassed 1 million for the first time in 2016. In October 2019 the number of foreigners working in Japan reached 1,658,804 (an increase of 13.6% from the previous year), the highest so far. Furthermore, the number of foreign residents in Japan at the end of 2019 reached a record high of 2,933,137 (up 7.4% from the end of the previous year), and there are ten times the number of permanent foreign residents living here than there were twenty years ago.
In facing two major trends of "human resources shortage" and "globalization" in Japan, "IT Solutions" and "Language Education Services" will become even more indispensable in the years to come.
We established Zenken Corporation in 1975 with the language education services business as one of its pillars. In the first year of the Internet era, we made a full-scale entry into the IT business and have developed a complete system of services devoted to production, design, programming, and marketing. In recent years, we have been focusing on AI technology and its uses in system development and service provision. By combining these IT / AI solutions with all the other businesses of the Zenken Group, such as recruitment business and language education business, we are able to provide high-quality, highly specialized services to our clients.
As we are aware of the growing demand for Japanese language education for foreign workers, we have also entered the Japanese language education business. At the same time, we have started online English conversation education services for high school students.
The demand for know-how and resources in the fields on which we have been most focusing, "IT solutions" and "Language Education Services," is now higher than ever and will likely keep increasing. By making full use of the abundant IT technology that we have cultivated and by expanding our business to employment services and employment support, we will contribute to regional revitalization as well as to revitalization of the Japanese economy and society in general.
